Prominent Atlanta trial attorney Joseph A. Fried of Fried Goldberg LLC has made a $5,000 challenge grant toward purchases of Atlanta Police Department trauma kits. This program, announced Oct. 2 by the Buckhead Coalition, provides an emergency means for injured front-line police officers to stop loss of blood.
The Coalition, supported by the related Atlanta area “downtown” nonprofit associations Central Atlanta Progress and Midtown Alliance, presented 90 of the trauma kits to the APD in a pilot project. The Coalition then called on the public to purchase the needed additional kits as a civic service avoiding a call on ad valorem taxes. Fried, a former police officer who is now considered one of the top truck accident lawyers in the country, stepped up to the plate.
“This is a great cause,” Fried said. “I hope friends and strangers alike will answer the call and buy one to 101 kits now to serve those who put their lives at risk protecting the rest of us!”
Former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell, now serving as President of the Buckhead Coalition, said:
“Two out of three officers killed in the line of duty die from loss of blood, and here is an immediate treatment we can offer to protect them against this tragedy. We hope Joe’s gracious donation will save lives; even one life would make it all worthwhile.”
The trauma kits cost $50 each, and checks made payable to the Atlanta Police Foundation (and mailed to State Bank and Trust at 3399 Peachtree Road, Suite 1900, Atlanta, 30326) can be treated as tax-deductible contributions. At the request of each donor, the individual or firm can be identified on the trauma kits.
